ARTISTIC ASSISTANT

 
 
Assists the Artistic Director in various artistic tasks.
  • Conduct rehearsals and concerts of the Sydney Contemporary Orchestra
  • Conduct rehearsals and concerts of the SCO Youth Symphony
  • Demonstrate your skills in conducting orchestra and running an organisation
  • Volunteer position for building up extremely rewarding conducting experience for modern Avant-garde orchestral music.
 
ABOUT THE JOB
 
  1. Participate all rehearsals and concerts of the Sydney Contemporary Orchestra and the Youth Symphony orchestras (contact Dr Koo for date and time details).
  2. Assist the Artistic Director to prepare and conduct rehearsals and concerts of the Sydney Contemporary Orchestra.
  3. Assist the Artistic Director to prepare and conduct rehearsals and concerts of the SCO Youth Symphony orchestras.
  4. Prepare programs and arranging scores and parts for the SYS orchestras
  5. Recruit new members for the SYS orchestras (conduct auditions)
  6. Recruit professional musicians for the SCO (conduct auditions).

We are seeking for an Artistic Assistant who is pursuing or has completed BA in music majoring in conducting or composition from any tertiary institute in Australia, and possesses demonstrated qualities in:

The Sydney Contemporary Orchestra Inc. (SCO) is an innovative orchestra for modern orchestral music. Founded in 2013 and led by its founding conductor, artistic and executive Director Dr Brian Chatpo Koo, the Sydney Contemporary Orchestra (SCO) is dedicated to exploring and promoting new music of contemporary composers.
 
Based in Sydney and comprised of about 100 of finest orchestral musicians, the SCO hosts concerts for new orchestral compositions regularly. In addition to its regular orchestral concerts, the orchestra also hosts various concerts on a variety of genres, providing significant incentives for composers to pursue creative endeavours in new music and to enrich the music culture of our times.
 
The Sydney Contemporary Orchestra (SCO) is registered as a non-profit musical organisation by the Australian Charities and Not-for profits Commission. In order to achieve our objectives, we have established the SCO Foundation (as defined in Taxation Ruling TR95/27). it operates is listed on the Register of Cultural Organisations under Subdivision 30-BA of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997.
 
All Board members of the Management Committee and Managers including the Artistic Director Dr Koo himself are volunteers, enabling to keep the funding towards employing the finest musicians and ensuring that all of our concerts are of the highest standard.

EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT

The Sydney Contemporary Orchestra (SCO) is seeking an inspirational and experienced Executive Assistant to help Dr Koo running this innovative orchestra, promote compositions of living composers, to build on its musical achievements and to develop our reputation as a leader in contemporary music internationally.

This is a volunteer position, working in your own pace and closely collaborated with the Artistic & Executive Director Dr Koo building up meaningful and rewarding working experience for modern management.

The successful candidate will assist Dr Koo to:

  • seek sponsors
  • prepare grant and funding applications
  • manage concert ticketing and marketing
  • maintain liaison with international composers
  • maintain liaison with the SCO musicians
  • recruit new professional musicians
  • recruit new members for Youth Symphony orchestras
  • maintain liaison with rehearsal and concert venues
  • manage website backends
  • manage social media backends
  • manage email system
  • manage Google AdWords.

These key responsibilities require a candidate with:
